an opera to wow even the non opera lovers

(sorry if you read this twice; for some reason my first review was not submitted or taken). This opera would likely wow opera haters too. Not to be tacky, this was like a superbly done motion picture. Incredibly, EVERYONE was great, not just Jonas Kaufmann and Anja Harteros; it felt almost that the opera could be called Philipo II, or Rodrigo, or Princess Eboli or the cute royal page, when he/she was center stage performing. The music was simply sublime, under Tony Pappano who reportedly has operatic music running "his veins"(Jonas Kaufmann). Bob Stein's stage was fantastic, though the creators of what's fondly called "Euro trash" may not agree - it paid homage to the historical context of the story and opera, with an awesome modern touch. This should be the go to Don Carlo or frankly anyone's first opera experience. I'll give it a 10 if I could.

possibly opera haters too! The most amazing part of this production was that EVERYONE's singing and acting were amazing, not just Jonas Kaufmann and Anja Anja Harteros; at any given moment when a particular character was center stage, this could have been called Philipo II, or Princess Eboli, or Rodigo, and not Don Carlo. Again, with Tony Pappano conducting, the conductor with music and especially operatic music running "in his veins", this production should be anyone's go-to Don Carlo, or first opera experience. Bob Stein's staging was simply brilliant. It paid homage to the historical context of the story and the opera, with an incredible, awe aspiring modern design. This should get a rating of 10!
