This is a concert performance from the Salle Pleyel in Paris, March 26th 1972 - and not from Barcelona. Philips Classics ventured into commercial recordings of early Verdi operas in the 70´s with among others Caballé & Carreras - pity they didn´t take some of the Donizetti works up, these two spanish stars were unsurpassed in at the same token. Luckily live recordings of their collaborations and finest bel-canto singing in such gems as Lucrezia Borgia, Caterina Cornaro, Roberto Devereux and here Maria Stuarda are preserved for us and generations to come.
